Day 4

We awoke yesterday to find a huge blessing before us. We had requested a room in the main hotel when making reservations in March for this historic Stanley Hotel, but were given a condo instead. Our place was nothing but beautiful but it wasn’t what we had expected. Without going into too much detail, when checking out, the Director of Operations happened to be at the front desk, and decided to clear our ‘splurge’ on our room. She also decided to throw in the hotel tour, which added a great finish to our time at the Stanley. God’s hand was truly upon us!

We had planned to travel up the Trail Ridge Road into the Rocky Mountain National Park for the day, hiking and poking around as we went, but the morning rain had turned to snow and the weather forecasters and visitor center park rangers were stating that weather conditions had closed that road, thus changing our day plans. We instead moved away from Estes Park and headed west through Boulder, and then on to lower elevation. We saw several groups of elk just walking through towns. We had dinner plans at a sweet old friends (not in years but in time), In Rifle, CO, so heading that way was the wisest thing to do. After lunch at a unique mountain diner, the higher elevation was so heavy with fog, that it made travel for the 1st hour very difficult. Once hitting I70 west, everything was clear…chilly but warming the further we drove.

It’s difficult to find the words to describe the way the mountains and canyons completely enveloped us. I have never seen such an array of God’s creation in the 2-3 hour trip that we enjoyed. We went through 6 tunnels and wove around the twisting highway with the snowcapped mountains, and watched the Colorado River wind all around us. We were just amazed beyond measure.

Dinner and reconnecting with the Rossilli’s in Rifle was such a worthwhile visit. I am so thankful for that 2 hour plus time. We then headed to our nighttime stay in Ouray, CO and ended up in our 1891 Western Historic hotel. Tomorrow we’ll tell you more…

We're enjoying hearing about your trip! I think it's fun that God surprised you-shows His father's heart, doesn't it? :-)
